Kevin Shird

Kevin Shird is a nationally recognized author, educator, speaker, and social justice advocate whose life’s work centers on healing and transformation. After overcoming tremendous personal challenges, Kevin dedicated his career to helping others break cycles of trauma and build better futures. Through his books, public speaking, and community leadership, he inspires individuals and organizations alike to confront systemic issues and work toward meaningful change.

With over a decade of advocacy, Kevin has collaborated on initiatives addressing mental health, public health policy, and criminal justice reform. His work has included partnering with the White House Office on National Drug Control Policy and contributing to President Obama’s Clemency Initiative, which helped secure the release of over 1,400 nonviolent offenders. Kevin has also developed evidence-based school programs educating youth about the dangers of drug misuse and continues to champion underserved communities nationwide.

In addition to his advocacy, Kevin served as an Associate at Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Medical Humanities and Social Medicine, where he taught courses on public health and social policy. He also taught at Coppin State University, mentoring future leaders and change makers. As a four-time published author, including his latest book A Life For A Life: Poor Choices and Unresolved Trauma Is Killing America (2025), Kevin blends personal insight, research, and solutions to address trauma and its impact on communities. His leadership and unwavering commitment to justice continue to guide the mission of A Life for A Life Foundation, empowering individuals to heal and thrive.
